I was at home working here in the uk and a news flash came over on the TV stating that a plane had crashed at Madrid airport.
I would like to express my condolence to all families affected.

20.08.2008 - 20:08 - Leslie Uk/Gran Canaria

just to let people know a spanair plane jk5022 has crashed in madrid bound for gran canaria my heart and prayers are going out to all the familes involved

20.08.2008 - 19:42 - very saddened

You first compare rates from the internet, Easy Jet in most cases ( but not all) is the most expensive, you must add boarding, bags and so on. other airlines can be cheaper, same distance same landing fees. another thing ALL airlines up the price on half term, although it costs no more to fly the plane. what the airlines will say is it depends on the type of aircraft. The bottom line, it is demand, and they make the money from that. in many cases it is cheaper to fly to NY.

20.08.2008 - 10:09 - pat

If we are gonna tackle the airlines we've got to have the information from others to support

20.08.2008 - 08:21 - TA

Why............

Pat Manchester
I would like to know the difference in the fares with easyjet etc

19.08.2008 - 17:01 - TA

I totally agree with several comments on here.
Gran Canaria is a GREAT ISLAND, and so is the Yumbo Centre. Yes its true, many business are struggling including ourselves, but we carry on to make the tourist and locals who support us have a great time, hence why we have a lot of returning customers, not bad for only being in business for just 18 months. I have seen the decline of tourist over the past few yrs as I have lived here for almost 6yrs now and worked in the Yumbo for most of that time. Bitchy comments fare and all BUT leave your name and email if you have nothing to worry about. This site will soon loose its guestbook I reckon if this keeps up. There had my say. Adam

As of 8:30 this morning Easy Jet had 48 empty seats on it 23rd August flight, but the fare is to expensive. You should be contacting the airlines asking why it cost more to GC than to NY or LA

19.08.2008 - 10:14 - Pat. Manchester

I am a travel agent in Salford, Manchester you guys need to stop all this fighting each other, you are all going to be in trouble soon, flights to Gran Canaria are 62% down from Bank Holiday last year flights to New York are 34% up. It is cheaper to go to New York, its the airline that you need to spend your energy on....Gc and Yumbo are heading for down the tubes, unless things change. Cheap flights to GC are over...........

19.08.2008 - 10:11 - Pat Morris, Manchester

Hello Make up your own minds, what is your name?????????

19.08.2008 - 09:03 - Bill Birmingham

Don't know what FACCT means, some gay complexes in GC are owned by the operator, some are leased, and in regards to the Beach Boys, Man Around did not pay the rent and the matter is in court. but the complex is also for sale by the owners.I represent the company who is looking at buying it. which may or may not happen. but it will re open soon

19.08.2008 - 09:00 - Thomas

Dear make up your own minds why did you not put your name down. How can you gob off about every one else

19.08.2008 - 07:42 - Chicken

WE ALL GET A LITTLE DRUNK FROM TIME TO TIME,AND SAY THINGS THEY LATER REGRET, IF I AM ONE OF THEM I AM SORRY, BUT WE ALL HAVE COME TO THIS ISLAND FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER.SO WHY CAN POEPLE NOT JUST ON WITH THERE OWN PROBLEMS IN LIFE WITHOUT CREATING MORE FOR OTHER POEPLE.WE ALL KNOW MICK FROM THE BLOCK ROMANCES FROM TIME TO TIME DONT WE ALL.BUT HE IS STILL DESCENT GUY.SO IF YOU WANT TO KNOW IF IT IS CORRECT ABOUT THE BAR WHY DONT YOU GO AND ASK HIM.THAT IS ALL I HAS TO SAY ON THE MATTER, SO IF YOU SAD PEOPLE WHO WRITE RUBBISH ON HERE ABOUT EVERYONES BUSSINESS WANT TO MAKE A COMMENT ABOUT SOME,WHY DONT YOU POST YOUR NAME SO PEOPLE KNOW WHO THE CHICKENS ARE.THIS SITE SHOULD BE CALLED SAD BASTARD.COM BECAUSE THATS ALL YOU ARE.SO WHY DONT YOU ALL GO BACK UNDER THE ROCK YOU CRAWLED OUT OF AND DIE.

18.08.2008 - 21:53 - MAKE UP YOUR OWN MINDS

Dear me, after reading all the complaining and back stabbing on this site i might change my holiday destination to Sitges / Myknos or even Benidorm - they all sound like happier places! Think many more will agree!!! No wonder GC and the YUMBO are in steep decline!!

18.08.2008 - 21:52 - Steve - Liverpool

the information being give out on this site regarding gay complex's is incorrect.
people do not own them they lease them from a company here in gran canaria.
if they don't pay the money to the company they can be thrown out without notice

18.08.2008 - 19:57 - FACTS

No the Beach Boys has not been sold yet, but there is a Britsh gay holiday company in talks to buy it.

18.08.2008 - 15:54 - Foster Leon

The Beachboys is at this time closed, this is because Man around went out of business, there are some legal problems right now, but the resort is expected to re open soon. It is true that there is a company who owns resorts in Gran Canria are looking at buying the resort, if anything will come of it, one does not know as the talks are in the early stage right now.

18.08.2008 - 15:49 - Thomas

To GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT.
It has not helped, when it has been the Manager Mick telling others that the BLOCK is up for sale. For some reason Mick enjoys doing this sort of thing, simply for attention. Most of the workers were a bit shocked when his latest tale was that "He only had three months to live due to cancer", c´mon Mick your one sick individual to come out with that sort of thing. However tales like this we have come to expect from him, so when he started saying that one of the units at the Block was up for grabs, no one actually took him at his word anyway.

18.08.2008 - 11:13 -

Rumour has it that Beachboys have been bought out by another company?

18.08.2008 - 11:04 -

Doe's anybody have any information about the gay comlex which goe's by the name of, Beachboys in maspalomas?

18.08.2008 - 11:02 - bluboy

TO PUT ALL PEOPLES MINDS AT REST WHO BELIEVE ANY OF THE RUBBISH THAT GETS PUT ON HERE.THE BLOCK IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE.

17.08.2008 - 20:06 - GET UR FACTS RIGHT

skyrider moving away from the yumbo is just the start
a lot more will not be there in a years time.
the credit crunch is hiting home.
some of the landlord need to take this on board or they will have empty units, at the moment the tennets are bearing
the brunt, they can't do this for much longer.

17.08.2008 - 19:29 -

makes sence i think they will make ten fold what they made of late in the yumbo!

17.08.2008 - 13:57 - .

It may seam that the skyrider is going to the beach after all and not Barcelona

17.08.2008 - 11:59 -

Oh dear. I think info is a tad confused. The block was never for sale and there was no mention of micks job in jeopardy. All people were saying is that the local was for sale which does not mean that the business is up for sale. By the way info, invest in a spell chacker!!!

17.08.2008 - 11:47 -

may i reassure anyone concerned about the rumours of the block for sale are no true. as we all know all bars are for sale at the right price. yes it is true that the block is owned by two different people.the owner of the darkroom local was interested in aquiring some money for the property as to the informatiob i have been given the has remorgaged the property,to acquire this money. so the block will not be for sale and mick who now runs it will be staying. thanks for listenong.

16.08.2008 - 20:56 - info

i would just like to give some infomation out when you hire a car in GC and damage is caused to the car (by vandalism) please be aware that the insurance does not cover you, even thought they say you are fully coverd they lye. We have just had to pay a bill for 440.00 euros because some one damaged it over night

16.08.2008 - 15:35 - john

I hear the new people who have La Belle have big plans for a new show bar

16.08.2008 - 14:15 - billy

Yeah its a shame about the skyrider. It always seemed to be a crowd puller. Maybe they shoud put the trampolines there for the kids.

16.08.2008 - 11:41 -

I see the Sky rider is now down. Looks a bit strange at first not seeing those two poles in the air.
I understand its moving to Barcelona. Good luck to them.

16.08.2008 - 11:14 - Dave

This is just a repeat of the same rubbish that the same old people added months and months ago and here we go again You people do not learn and are two short sighted to see the huge negative impact that is being caused to the businsses of the yumbo You think thinks are bad now? I think alot of you should be more concerned about the lack of trade for the rest of 08 and 09 than all this rubblish. Lack of trade equals less jobs less money less business in the yumbo You can now get a flight with Virgin to the US for less than some of the prices of tickets to come here and pay over the odds for drinks etc people will pay less to go further and with the £ and the Dollar -vrs- £ and the EUR wouldnt you! I am saying this but it will not make any difference I am sure

16.08.2008 - 06:18 - sameoldrubbish

WE ALL KNOW THE BARS THATS NOT DOING ANY TRADE.WHY IS THAT?????????

15.08.2008 - 22:23 -

talking like that on a web site for the yumbo, isnt gonna help anybody.was in the yumbo for the last 3 nights and it looked very busy to me

15.08.2008 - 22:18 -

As most locals are more than aware, times are hard and are
probably going to get a lot worse before they get any better.
The summer tourist trade has not really materialised here in the Yumbo.
People often show their true colours when under financial
pressure, but slagging off other bars and venues to punters is not going to help anybody in the long term.
So come on Jackie give it a rest.

15.08.2008 - 21:34 - Local

The freehold for the Block´s Dark room local is for sale, not the main Bar.
Both Locals are owned by 2 different parties, but both leased from Peter from the Block. Like any other business in the Yumbo any other C.C´s, any business is for sale whether it be Trepaso or Freehold for the right price.
